What is happening in the Life of Cornerstone in September

Posted on in Monthly News

Services continued over the summer but many of us have been away visiting family and friends, at weddings and on holiday so numbers have been a little depleted.

From September much of the normal activity resumes.

Services

Our services are every Sunday starting at 10.30, with refreshments provided before and afterwards.  There are groups for children, youth, and students.

Prayer Groups – Every Wednesday and every 2nd and 4th Sunday (over Zoom)

Family services

The next family service (followed by a bring and share lunch) is Sunday 4th September.

Youth Orientation – Sunday 11th Sept at 12:30pm

On Sunday 11th Sept our youth group and their parents will be meeting in the upper room for lunch (provided) and games together before restarting Sunday classes.  If your child is staring or is already at secondary school and you haven’t already heard from Candice/Mike, please get in touch. (Younger siblings can also attend if more convenient).

Student Group/Lunches

Student lunches resume on Sun 11th Sept.  The first one will be a light meal served in the downstairs back room.

Men’s breakfast

Men’s group returns in September. The plan is:

Saturday September 10th – Faithfulness

Saturday 15th October – South-West Men’s Conference

Saturday 12th November – Gentleness

We have a break in December then we will finish the series on Saturday 14th January with Self-Control

Here is the link for the South-West Men’s Conference https://www.swgp.org.uk/events/mens-convention/ – there is an early discount I think until mid- September.

Women’s breakfast

This is set to return. Please keep a watch out on our social media pages for more information.

Home groups

From September the home groups are:

Mondays
Larry and Candice – meeting weekly on Zoom with a monthly in person social.

Andrew and Isla – in person every week, usually BS34, occasionally BS10. 2 Bible studies, 1 prayer evening, 1 social evening per month.

Tuesdays
Pamela and Andrew – weekly in person, alternating between BS7 and BS15.

Sundays
Emily and Michael – meet monthly for lunch and Bible study after the service.

If you are not part of a home group and would like to join one then please get in touch. It is a great way to build friendships in smaller groups.

Baby/Toddler group

Returns in September.

10:30-12 Tuesday mornings (6 weeks on, 2 weeks off).

Pop Up Café

After the success of our “Noise” pop up cafe, we are going to host another one on Saturday 1st October.  We are tying this in with the Macmillan coffee morning event (officially on the day before).  A good way of inviting our neighbours and friends to a church event as well as raising some money for a good cause.  Hopefully the weather will still be warm enough to have it in the carpark again, if possible.  If you would like to get involved (baking, setting up, hosting, clearing away, leaflet drop), please let Rae know.

Kintsugi Wellbeing Groups

In the Autumn term we will be piloting our first Kintsugi wellbeing group. This is a 12-week peer mentored course (i.e., it’s all about supporting each other and learning together, rather than being completely led by one person), designed to explore different aspects of mental and emotional health.  Click here to find out more.  (Apologies for whichever adverts get thrown at you at the start!)  If you are interested in finding out more about it or would like to express an interest in being part of the pilot group, please let Rae know.

Cornerstone Ceilidh

Sat 3rd Dec.  A fun evening to invite family and friends along to.

Weekend Away 2023!!

The date is 21st-23rd April.

There will be a payment scheme as before. More details to follow in the coming weeks.

In-Hope/Wild Goose

Although our formal connection to The Wild Goose Cafe stopped once they no longer served evening meals, they still do need volunteers during the day.  Although this wouldn’t be something we could offer as a church, if you personally would like to get involved and have time during the day to offer, let Rae know and she can forward their email to you.

We are always looking for volunteers to join our various teams. If you think you can help, please let Rae know. There are more details on the board at Church.

Finally, if you have missed any talks over the summer drop over to Castbox where all the latest are saved. If you would like more information on anything detailed in this update, please contact [email protected]
