In 2026, Cornerstone Church will celebrate 40 years since its foundation.
We are a family-friendly Christian church in Redland, Bristol, committed to authentic community, discipleship, and sharing Christ’s love in Bristol, Britain, and beyond.

How Cornerstone Began

Cornerstone began in 1986 in a home in St Werburgh’s. At that time, a small group met on Saturday mornings for Bible study and worship. During this early stage, we were known as St Werburgh’s Christian Fellowship.

As the group grew, more space was needed. Therefore, we moved from St Werburgh’s to a large room in City Road Baptist Church. At this point, our name changed to Cornerstone Ministries, reflecting both our growth and wider calling.

Finding a Permanent Home

Over time, the fellowship continued to grow. As a result, it became clear that we needed a larger and more permanent place to meet.

After viewing several premises without success, we eventually found our current home at Christchurch on Redland Road. We received the keys in January 1994. However, the building required significant work.

It had previously been sold to developers and partially converted into offices. Unfortunately, the project was abandoned for four years due to financial difficulties. Much of the work remained unfinished.

With the help of church members, unfinished areas were completed, and the building was refurnished. Consequently, the church was ready for its official opening in March 1994.

Expanding Vision and Outreach

With our own space, we were able to expand our vision. For example, we hosted weekly Bible studies attended by Christians from across the city. In addition, we worked alongside other churches on shared events and community projects.

One such project included supporting the 125 Project by providing a van to help offer safe shelter to women working in the sex industry.

Beyond Bristol, we also transported lorry loads of aid to Romania over several years. Today, we continue to support projects internationally, particularly in India and Africa, through prayer, practical help, and ongoing partnership.

Cornerstone Church Today

Over time, the profile of our church has changed. Today, we are very much a family church, with ages ranging from eight months to eighty years.

At our core are young adults, students, and professionals. Their energy and commitment help drive our activities. As a result, visitors often comment on the warm and welcoming atmosphere.
